This article by Eye Tech Securities will clarify all your doubts and guide you to make safe, legal, and long-term CCTV investments.

What Is STQC Certification and Why It Matters?

From April 2025, the Indian government made STQC certification mandatory for most CCTV products to:

  • Ensure cybersecurity (protection against hacking).

  • Stop the sale of duplicate or expired warranty products.

  • Encourage quality and local manufacturing.

It does not mean brands are banned—it only means uncertified models can’t be sold until they comply.

What Brands are Certified by STQC?

As of now(Aug 17 2025), following 4 brands are certified by STQC.

Matrix
Prama
Cpplus
Sparsh

Source says that only Sparsh brand got certified for their full range of products. But, in Chennai Prama & Cpplus brand are more dominant.

Product-Wise Clarification

1. DVR (Digital Video Recorder)

Not required.
DVRs don’t need STQC certification. They can be freely sold and installed.

2. NVR (Network Video Recorder)

Not required.
Even though NVRs work on networks, the certification rule currently applies only to IP cameras, not to NVR devices.

3. IP/Network Cameras

STQC Mandatory.

  • All IP/Network cameras must be certified.

  • Some brands (like CP Plus, Prama, Sparsh) already have certified models.

  • Big brands like Hikvision, Dahua are in process of approval.

4. Analog/HD Cameras

Not required.
Analog/HD cameras do not need certification because they don’t connect to the internet.

Are Hikvision & Dahua Banned?

No, not banned.

  • Only uncertified IP cameras from these brands are restricted until they complete STQC approval.

  • Their DVRs, NVRs, and Analog/HD cameras are freely available.

  • Service for already-installed products continues without any problem.
